Prague
Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, the seat of the President, govermment and parliament and is the political, cultural and economic centre of the country. It spreads out on both banks of the river Vltava in centre of Bohemia.
The whole city consists of 10 administrative districts. The odest parts are the Old Town, The Lesser Town, the New Town, Josefov, Hradčany and Vyšehrad.
The most famoust are Hradčany with Prague Castle which was founded in the ninth century. It is the seat of the President and the dominant of the city.
In the neighbourhood of the Castle on Petřín Hill overlooking the Lesser Town the Strahov Monastery is located. Founded in the 12th century, it is now Museum of Czech Literature. Nearby the Petřín Observation Tower can be found. It was build for the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891 as a free copy of Eiffel Tower.
Along Neruda Street we can go from to the Lesser Town below. The Lesser Town is a poetic quarter with houses and palaces and romantic gardens. From the square we can easily get to Charles Bridge over the river Vltava. It is very old brige, he was build in 14th century.
Among many more important institutions, charming places, houses and museums is Charles University, the oldest university in Central and Eastern Europe.
Prague is not only a historical city, it bustles with everyday life, there are many industries. The most important kinds of industry are the food industry, textile, chemical, printing and film (Barrandov) industry.
The Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is situated in the centre of Europe and sometimes it is called the heart of Europe. It occupies an area of about 79 000 sq km and has about 10,33 million inhabitants.
Czech borders are the oldest ones in the Europe. We border with Germany, Poland, Austia and Slovakia.
The Czech Republic consists of three lands: Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.
The biggest mountain in the Czech Republic is Sněžka and the longest river is the Vltava. Other important rivers are the Elbe (flowing into the North Sea), the Oder (flowing into the Baltic Sea), the Morava (flowing into the Black Sea), Jizera, Ohře and Dyje.
The climate is mostly continental, the warmest area being in South Moravia.
The biggest city is the capital Prague. The other big cities are Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, České Budějovice.
The Czech Republic is traditionally and industrial country. There are the chemical industry, food industry, textile industry and other sorts of industry.
